PLAY SUBMISSION

If you are an artist currently living in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, please email a one page synopsis of your play and a current resume to our Literary Department.

Due to the volume of material we consider each year and limited staff size, we are unable to accept any unsolicited scripts from writers out side of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Please note that DTC does not provide comments or suggestions about work that we do not intend to develop or produce. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us via e-mail.

SUBMISSIONS:

HI Y'ALL!

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE CALL CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DECIDE IF AND WHICH PLAY TO SUBMIT SO THAT YOUR SUBMISSION IS ELIGIBLE AND APPROPRIATE.

THANKS FOR YOUR KIND CONSIDERATION. WE APPRECIATE IT!

This year, Kitchen Dog Theater will be accepting submissions for our New Works Festival from 12:01 am NOVEMBER 15th to 11:59pm on NOVEMBER 18th.

WHAT IS KITCHEN DOG LOOKING FOR?

Eligible plays must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Full-length play (no musicals)

  • Unproduced (may have received a university production, workshop, or staged reading)

  • Production-ready (this is a showcase opportunity not a developmental one, especially since we are unable to provide travel funds)

  • Requires no more than 8 actors

  • Script has not been previously submitted to our festival

  • MUST SPEAK TO KITCHEN DOG’S MISSION! PLEASE READ THE MISSION STATEMENT ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE SUBMITTING!

  • Only one submission per playwright; if more than one script is submitted, none of the plays will be eligible.

Kitchen Dog will also require a cover letter with your submitted play this year. This cover letter should also be submitted through NPX under Additional Documents, and should include the following:

  • A brief description of how your play aligns with Kitchen Dog’s mission statement

  • A detailed report of your submitted script’s production history as it aligns with our requirements above

  • A written acknowledgement that your play requires no more than 8 actors

  • Why you are interested in participating in our New Works Festival

This letter need not be more than one page in length, and should not be more than two pages. Plays submitted without a cover letter will not be considered for this year’s festival.

HOW DO I SUBMIT?

As Founding Members of the National New Play Network, it is our goal to showcase an exciting, diverse, and inclusive slate of plays that reflect the next phase of new work coming to the fore in the American theater and beyond. As part of this commitment, we are only accepting submissions through the New Play Exchange (NPX).

NO HARD COPIES OR EMAILED SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Here’s how to submit your play to us through NPX:

1. Go to www.newplayexchange.org and create a Writer account.
2. Once you've set up your profile, upload a full draft of the play you want to send to Kitchen Dog. Samples are not eligible for any NPX opportunities. Be sure your play is tagged to meet all of our criteria (it is for ages 16 & up, has less than 8 actors, is a full-length, etc.) 3. Upload your cover letter. 4. You'll get an e-mail from NPX telling you that your play is eligible (this can take up to 24 hours, but is usually much faster). 5. Make sure you're logged into NPX in your browser, click on the link in the email, review our criteria again - just to make sure - then click the big blue "tag my play" button. 6. You're done. It's really that simple!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

A rehearsed, semi-staged, public reading of your play, a $100 playwright honorarium, and a recommendation from our page to yours on the New Play Exchange. Plus, several of our New Works Festival plays have gone on to production at KDT. Just check out our “Past Plays” link!

Additionally, KDT will post a recommendation on NPX to all 25 semi-finalists for this year’s festival.

GOOD LUCK!
